Many studies have showed that body fat distribution has a close relationship with the occurrence of metabolic disorders, and an excess of abdominal fat, especially intra-abdominal visceral fat, leads to obesity-related complications, such as diabetes mellitus, hyperlipidemia, and hypertension. Therefore it is very important that the designation of obesity disease include a factor that reflects the accumulation of intra-abdominal visceral fat. In these background, by Japan Society for the Study of Obesity, it was reported that the cut-off point of VFA at 100 cm^2 as indicative of the risk of obesity-related disorders and a waist circumference of 85 cm in men and 90 cm in women approximates to this visceral fat mass.
