A content analysis was conducted based on the verbatim transcripts with reference to Berelson.\nResults: The support for patients with cancer recognized by outpatient nurses was classified into five categories, including “insufficient coordination with OCNSs” and “established attendance system.” Expectations for OCNSs were classified into two categories, including “fulfilling the role of OCNSs.”\nConclusion: The support for patients with cancer who have received bad news as perceived by outpatient nurses can be divided into perceptions of being able and not being able to provide support. Outpatient nurses expected OCNSs to fulfill their role. OCNSs need to assess the current situation of outpatient nurses.
